The Amazon Berry ™
Açaí fruit is more than just a purple berry. It’s often regarded as one of the standout fruits of the Amazon. Grown on the Açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) in the floodplains of the rainforest and wild-harvested by hand, this versatile berry has long been part of traditional diets in the region.
Why Eat Açaí Berries?
Over the past few years, Açaí berries have grown in popularity around the world. It’s no surprise, given their distinctive flavour and convenience. As more people discover the appeal of Açaí, we’re proud to share this remarkable berry and highlight what makes it so special.
Açaí is a natural source of antioxidant compounds, particularly anthocyanins. These flavonoids, also abundant in blueberries, give açaí its distinctive deep purple colour and contribute to its nutritional value.
Açaí provides a blend of naturally occurring omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids. Its plant-based lipid profile is comparable to that of olive oil, a recognised source of these fats.
Açaí is naturally low in sugar, making it a suitable choice for those monitoring their dietary sugar intake.
GOOD TASTE DOESN’T USUALLY COME THIS EASILY
If you're wondering what Açaí tastes like, it sits somewhere between mixed berries, dark chocolate and red wine — that’s where you’ll find the distinctively exotic character of açaí fruit. Who said something this delicious couldn’t feel a little bit special?
From the beginning, SAMBAZON was as much about supporting the community of harvesters and protecting the biodiversity of the Amazon as it was about sharing this delicious fruit from Brazil with the world.
By creating our own vertical supply chain of Certified Organic and Fair Trade Açaí, we’ve been able to do just that, building a direct connection between our farmers and you along the way.
Açaí may be hard to pronounce, but it’s easy to enjoy. Wild-harvested by hand from the rainforest’s Açaí palm trees for centuries, this purple berry has long been part of Amazonian culture.
Açaí naturally contains antioxidants and omegas 3, 6 and 9, and is low in naturally occurring sugars. And because our Açaí is Certified Organic, our harvesters avoid the use of prohibited chemicals and pesticides, helping protect both the environment and the communities involved.
We believe in transparency., and we understand how important it is to feel confident that the food you and your family enjoy is produced with care and sourced, transported and processed responsibly.
By creating our own supply chain, we’re able to oversee each stage of the journey — from the moment our Fair Trade açaí is hand-harvested and carried by riverboats, to its careful inspection and environmentally mindful processing. Each time you enjoy our açaí, you can think of its journey from the palm of the tree to the palm of your hand.
Local harvesters pick our Certified Organic and Fair Trade Açaí by hand, helping to minimise impact on the local ecosystem.
Transported by riverboat down the Amazon, the berries are then checked for qualities such as colour, texture and aroma directly on our dock.
Our berries are processed at two of the most advanced, eco-minded açaí facilities in the region.
This is where you come in. Enjoy this delicious, responsibly sourced berry — and don’t forget your purple smile.
The Açaí berry is thought to be the most powerful of over 200 fresh fruits found in the Amazon.
